Description
Merry, the Rabbit Mom Didn’t Want
This is the first book in a series of three about Merry, the rabbit. The three stories form a biography of this rabbit’s real life experiences. Merry was unusual in that she did not spend her life in a cage. She was free to interact with her environment and her human companions. She proved herself as intelligent and loyal as a dog or cat despite her frailties.
In this first book Merry is given as a gift to the author who at that time was a child with very limited knowledge of rabbits. The child’s mother has asthma so the rabbit can not be kept in the house. The author tries several methods of caging the rabbit but Merry makes it quite clear that cages are not for her. Merry ends up with the freedom to come and go from the garage, the yard, and under the front porch. At the end of the book she is allowed to stay in the basement during the winter because mother says it is too cold outside.
